Justins Bike (We think?) accident

Thursday Night, I got off work late- picked up Paige and Justin cooked dinner for us!  At 6:40 Paige & I headed around the corner for swim lessons.  At 7pm I got a call from Justin that went like this:

Justin "Do you know where our daughter is?"
me: "Of course, we are at swim lessons.  Did you forget?  We just left 15 min ago?"
Justin " Do you have her?"
Me :"Yes, I just told you I did"
Justin "I just fell off my bike and hit my head and I don't know where my daughter is"
Me "Are you OK?  I have Paige but I am worried about you"
Justin "If you have her then everything is fine.  I just needed to know she was OK"

And he hung up.  Paige had about 15 minutes left at that point and I was not sure how serious it was, or if he was even home.   I talked to our neighbor, Tim, who was not home at the time but he said he would send his wife, Paula, to check on him.

I called Justin back.  He mentioned that he needed stitches.  I told him I was worried about him and Paula was coming over to check on him and not to let her go home until I could get there.   I called my mom to verify that this was an E.R. thing and not a urgent care (There is $125 difference in Co-pays) and she agreed.  But she suggested I talk to Paula and pull Paige out early.   I called Justin back and he said Paula went home so i pulled Paige out and got home quickly.

Paige did not want to to go the hospital again and was worried how her Daddy would look.  I instructed her to go straight to her room and start getting out of her wet clothes and I would see how Justin was doing and figure out what to do.   I asked Justin if he could call Justin & Hanna down the street to see if they could watch Paige until My mom or someone could come get Paige so she didn't have to go to the hospital.  He was staring at his phone kind of funny so I said, let me have your phone and I will call him but he said he could do it so I went to get Paige ready.

He had a nice cut under his eye and some bruises on his face so I knew he needed stitches but I didn't realize how bad things were yet.  I came back out after Paige was in her PJ's and asked what Justin had said.  He said' I was supposed to call Justin?"  Then he looked at me and said, "I am beat up-  Do you know what happened".  Now I was worried.  I grabbed his phone and called Justin.  However, his Iphone and I aren't friends so I started telling Justin what was going on and I lost him/face muted him/face timed him, etc.  I tried to call on my house phone which was dead and then I decided that it wasn't worth it.  I needed to get my husband to the hospital and my mom would have to pick Paige up from there.

Luckily Justin (Down the street) came skateboarding up right then and he took Paige with him.  We got in the car and headed to the hospital.  On the way there, we had the same conversation several times since he didn't really know what was going on.  He was still worried since Paige was not with us.

The E.R. was super busy but they got him in quickly (All though that didn't speed too much up after that).  They checked him out, ran a CT Scan, a shoulder xray, etc.  They stitched him up too.    By the time we left at almost Midnight- he was diagnosed with a concussion, and a small fracture in his face somewhere.  No other breaks, but lots of bruises and scrapes.

Throughout the night he did remember some stuff about what was going on, but how he got there was still a mystery.  He remember riding the bike and "Bunny hopping" up the curb at the park but after that there is nothing.  He doesn't know how he got home.  He doesn't remember changing.  He did think it was hilarious that he was wearing black pants because apparently he does not wear black pants.   Every five-10 minutes he would realize he was in black pants and start laughing hard at that fact.  And then he would touch his head and want to know where his hat was. When I would let him know he didn't bring it, he would say "What?  I always wear a hat and I never wear black pants... what was I doing?"

The next morning I went to work.  His friend Kevin was here for a while so that was good.  When I checked in on him he said he kept losing his keys(even though he didn't really need them) and that he had walked into a bucket and then turned around and did it again a minute later because he didn't remember it was there.  He made a doctors appt that afternoon and I quickly realized I would need to not only drive him there, but need to be there with him.  He doesn't know what happened, even really at the hospital, so he couldn't answer a lot of questions.

The doctor had to ask a series of questions and he was tired so he was quite agitated at them.  She advised that while she is still concerned that he could still end up with some brain bleeding, etc- she would wait to follow-up again until Monday (She almost had us comeback on Saturday because she was concerned about his memory loss/issues).  Plus he looks bad so that doesn't help.    He is to rest and she recommends at least a week off of work- but right now I am not sure I can even stop him from working on Monday.  We are resting this weekend and then we will go from there.

Today (Saturday), he is still really sore but he seems more with it in the head.   He remembered that Paige and I left for a few hours to go to a baby shower, so that is good.   But we still don't know how it happened.  Was he hit by a car?  Or a person?  Was he doing a trick?  Or just riding normally and something happened.  I think he went over the handle bars based on his injuries.   But where he actually hit his head and what he hit it on is a mystery  I went to the park last night but the regulars were not there.  Hoping to find someone who saw him that night and can fill in the blanks.

For now, we are just taking it day by day!
