Summer Staycation 2014

We had to keep things closer to home this year to budget constraints.  My parents were going to rent a beach house somewhere in California, but trying to meet the size of our family, the different needs of our family and find a time where we can all be there for the whole week proved a tough task and we decided to just have a staycation and do fun day trips!

The first day was a relaxation day since my Nana had flown in the night before from Boston (The first of our out of town guests!).  I ran some errands, did some housework, etc and then we hung out at my parents for a while.  Funny how they were relaxing in the yard one minute and trimming the lemon tree the next.  So relaxing!

Sunday, I was on worship team at Church.  So we all went to service.  After church, we were told that we were going to Sideboards for lunch and then getting into the van for an afternoon of surprises.   First stop was the Rosie The Riveter museum/national park.  I didn't know this place existed, nor did I really know who she was until I saw the picture.   It was pretty interesting.  Paige also became a Junior ranger too.

Next up was this cool cement slide in Berkeley!

We ended the night at Fentons in Oakland where we had ice cream for dinner.  And we found St Leo's Catholic church (Leo was my Papa who passed away when I was a Freshman- and he was Nana's husband!)

Monday:  We had a beach day in New Brighton State Beach.  Nana always has to go to the ocean.

Tuesday:  Paige had a field trip so I took her to Kids Club for the day.  I went with my parents, Mikaila and Nana to the Napa Area and went Wine Tasting and Champagne Tasting for the first time.  Then we had dinner at this cool market place.

Wednesday-  We had another lazy day
Thursday-  Chelsie & Tony arrived and we had "Christmas in August" for Mikaila since she won't be home this Christmas.   We watched Elf, Baked pies with Nana and ended the day with a scavenger hunt where we got to go on a shopping spree at the outlet mall!

Friday:  My parents had won this sailing trip around the bay at a fundraiser so we went (At least the adults did).  Paige went for the carnival they had at Kids club and our friend Denise picked her up since we weren't going to make it home in time!  I was nervous about going on a boat with my motion sickness, but we had a great day.  We all got to drive (All though Chelsie and I managed to get the hardest shifts somehow) at least once.  We had a great lunch.  It was just nice so spend time with my crazy family.

Saturday:  Kayla left for a Senior trip with her friends early int he morning.  And everyone was tired from sailing so they were having a relaxation day.  Our nephew had run away a few days before, so Justin and Paige and I went to Santa Cruz to post flyers and look for him.  My family met us at the Boardwalk around dinner time, where we had a Thai dinner and then went to the boardwalk to Paige could ride the Pirates ship.

Sunday:  We went to church as a family.  And then we had lunch and played games with everyone until it was time to take Chelsie & Tony to the airport.  So we had to say good-bye to them and Nana.   I hate saying good-bye.  I hate that I won't see Chelsie & Tony until New Years (Christmas is going to be really weird this year) and I don't know when we will see Nana again.   Family is everything to me.  I just wish I knew how we could all be in the same place all the time!
