We left on Friday Morning (Pulling Paige out of school for the first time). On the way down we made our normal stops. A bathroom break at a rest stop. A snack/lunch break right before the grapevine. But because Mikaila had a starbucks here, as soon as we got over the grapevine she had to pee again. We were just coming into LA and were nervous about what we would find if we just pulled of the freeway. However, I saw a sign for Griffith Park which I recognized as a place you can see the Hollywood sign from my trip last weekend and figured there had to be a bathroom there. We found one and also found a pony ride! Such a fun, unexpected stop!
It was a good thing we made the stop because we hit a ton of traffic and it took a while to get to San Diego from there. We went straight to Chelsie's new classroom to check it out!
The hardest part of planning a party from 8 hours away is finding a place to throw it. We managed to find a room at the hotel we ended up getting the blocks for the wedding at. It was a unique venue but it all worked out. We had a few delays (Like showing up to pick-up the party trays and they were wrong. A 10 minute fix took almost an hour and it made us a little late- but we got a couple of the trays for free- so silver lining!) but the shower was beautiful.
While we were at the shower, the boys finished moving all of Chelsie's stuff into her new apartment. When the shower was over, Mom & Chelsie went to her old apartment to finish cleaning and then headed to the new place again to get a few things settled in. Paige, Kayla and I hung out by the pool and when we realized they weren't going to make it back for dinner, Kayla headed down the street to find some takeout (Which is apparently difficult on a Saturday Night in Old Town). Paige passed out as soon as she was done eating and we moved her into my parents adjoining room. While hanging out we had the door to our little patio open and when Kayla when to close it a giant green bug came on in. My dad killed it when he got back, but it turned out it was a grasshopper and we felt bad.
The next morning, Paige gave me an early morning wake-up. Trying not to wake-up Chelsie & Mikaila- we headed to the breakfast room. Then, after we were ready for church we walked around old town for a few minutes to occupy Paige until everyone was ready to leave!
After church, we went to a unique place called "Soda & Swine" where we ate some delicious meatballs, fries and Brussels Sprouts. And we tried some unique sodas in bottles. After lunch, Paige & I went swimming again. And a while later the family joined us poolside while they finalized the wedding invitations. We hung out in the evening with the family by the fire pit in the courtyard and then sadly said good-bye for a few weeks.
The next morning we got up early and headed home. We made record time with Dad driving and only made one quick stop even with my 5 year old!
