Things Paige Says Summer 2011

Paige: "Can one of you get me some popcorn? Because my tummy is telling me that it want popcorn. Did you know that your tummy talks to you?"

Paige: "Mom- whats in your tummy?" Me: "Fat", Paige"It looks like I have a new baby brother or sister coming"

After finding a picture of Chelsie from Highschool:
Paige: "Who is is?, Me:"Who do you think?", Paige (After looking at it for a minute) "Chelsie!! Can I take it to my room?" Me: Sure, Paige "Mom- What kind of Chelsie is this?"

My dad gave her one of those recordable books where he recorded himself reading "The Night before Christmas". The other night she said "That book that Papa reads to me in Spain is about Christmas" I think she really thinks he is reading it to her from Spain. And when she was reading it by herself at bedtime it stopped working because the booklight was not bright enough. She kept tapping it saying "Come on Papa!".

At dinner the other night she asked "When you go potty in heaven, which way do you go?" I think she was referring to where the bathrooms are.

While watching a fireworks show, Paige turned to me and said 'That one looks like Justin Beiber!

She refers to Kunfu Panda a "Comfortable Panda"

Update 9/14/11
According to Paige, I am now a teenager and Mikaila is an adult! Because I haven't been feeling well, I have been resting a lot and Mikaila gets up early for school again. And teenagers sleep all day- so Mommy must be a teenager.

At school today, she saw a bulldozer and was very excited about it. While telling us about it at dinner, she exclaimed: "And I ordered him to put princess stickers on it!". I asked her if he did and she said "No. And I am still mad at him!".

Misc Summer 2011 Picture Dump

Below are some random pictures from summer that just didn't have their own post! Enjoy!

Laura & Roberts wedding

I can not tell you how excited I was when I got the invitation to this wedding. I met Laura right before Justin & I got married. We are friends, but not best friends. But we have been through a lot of things together. I knew the wedding budget was tight and I fully expected to not be invited, but was thrilled when I was. This was part of the reason I did not end up in San Diego (Not the only reason, but it was a factor).

The wedding was on the ranch of a mutual friend in San Ramon. Laura & Robert are simple and the wedding fit them completely. It was beautifully done. I think it could have been a picture in a magazine. It was not overdone and it was gorgeous. And her dress! She found it at some sort of vintage/thrift store. I saw it before it was altered. It had the full lace up to the neck and all the way down the arms. But how it turned out was better than I can imagine.

They had popcorn (In little lace doily things) and water for us while we waited for the ceremony to start. The ceremony took place in the barn. The bridesmaids wore simple dresses that were similar but all unique and cowboy boots. The ceremony was beautiful.

After the ceremony, the wedding party went off to take pictures. People moved all of the chairs to the tables that were set-up outside. On the tables were lots of jars and candles. In some of the jars were some black & white pictures of the weddings of some of the guests (Justin & I were on it!). They had chicken wings, a veggie tray and Artichoke/Jalapeno dip for an appetizer. There were mason jars with a strip of black paint on them. We wrote our names on our cups with Chalk and these were our favors too! They had water, lemonade and ice tea to drink. They also had ice cream floats during this time that included a root beer keg. It was so cute!

They had a photo area for the guests with props. You signed the guest book and took a picture that would go in next to your signature later. It was fun.

Dinner was hamburgers, mac & Cheese, sweet potato fries and salad. There was a full topping bar including grilled onions and some other interesting toppings for your hamburger. It was great!

After dinner and the first dances, their line dance instructor taught us a few line dances. I had so much fun- I forgot about all the pain I have been in the last couple of months. It was so nice to just let loose and relax.

Nana & Aunt Kathy come to visit!

My Nana (My dad's mom) and my Aunt Kathy came for a visit. They came in Friday afternoon. We hung out and had dinner with them. Saturday we ended up at the Jelly Belly Factory for a tour. Paige, Justin & I had never done that so it was fun. Not everything was working, but it was cool to see how Jelly Beans are made. Sunday we went to Muir woods. I forgot my camera in the car so I don't have any pictures, but it was beautiful. I love spending time with my family and was sad that our time was so short. We had dinner together on Monday evening after work and then all of my family headed down to San Diego. They went to see my sister, Chelsie. Chelsie, and my nana share a birthday so they were there to celebrate Chelsie's 21st birthday together. The trip was sort of last minute so I just wasn't able to work it. It was really hard for me to miss such a big birthday. I wish she went to college closer, and I am sad that she has not been able to come back at all this summer. But I guess that is what happens as you get older. I just hope that she knows how much I love her and how proud I am of her! And I hope she comes back once college is done.

Hermosapalooza 2011

Every year a group of girlfriends go to Hermosa Beach for a girls weekend. It started 4 years ago when Denise was getting married. They did this as her bachelorette party. Paige was only about 7 months old at the time so I did not make it that year. It became a tradition. This was the 2nd one I made it to.

We stay at Denise's sisters house which is only a few blocks from Hermosa Beach & Pier.

We left around 7pm on Thursday Evening and got into Hermosa around 2am. We all blew up our air mattresses and attempted at sleeping. Poor Anna's mattress had a hole in it. As her, Jamie & Denise tried to fix it, the situation just got more & more funny. Long story short, nail polish will not help mend an air mattress- but it will make the hole bigger.

After we slept in the next morning we got up, had some breakfast and headed out for a beach day. We started at the pier because we were told there was a surprise waiting for us there. Turns out a comedian named with a show called Tosh.O was taping a segment. It was a treadmill marathon. Lots of people running/walking a marathon on treadmills. There was a baby crawling, men in full military gear, a guy on a wheel chair, and lots of other people. There was also a guy on a stair master and a guy with one of those old butt jiggle machines. It was interesting. As the girls watched for a little while, I went to find some water and ended up having some yummy Hawaiian ice cream (Yes it was pretty much for breakfast- but I was on vacation!). We then spent the next few hours relaxing on the beach. I re-applied my sun block a few times and was the only one who did not end up with a bad burn.

That night we went to a birthday party for one of Sarah's friends. She had this beautiful top floor apartment with its own little rooftop deck. It overlooked the ocean, but it was too dark to appreciate it. Overall that night was fun. We had a few drinks (Some had a few more than others) and just hung out with the girls.

The next day some of us did not feel like doing to much. We went to target and just hung out eating and relaxing at Sarah's house. That night we had plans to go to a "Pajama Party" at some rich guys house on the Beach. It was a very popular and exclusive party. As you can imagine, it took 6 girls a while to get ready in an apartment with one bathroom. I won't go into too many details about this night, but it was very crowded and I was really out of my element there. I was one of the most conservatively dressed people there. There was some drama/confusion that ended up making the night a little frustrating and we ended up back home earlier than expected.

Sunday morning, we got up and we all went to church together. Then we had lunch, packed up and said good bye. After the trip to Tahoe, I was glad to get away with the girls. But, I am not sure if I will keep going in the future. It is a lot of fun, but I think I think I might organize a more relaxing girls weekend with some of my friends who are more at my "Stage" of life. A nice weekend at a hotel with a spa & pool overlooking the ocean sounds wonderful. I would love to catch up with my girlfriends with a glass or two of wine and just relax by the pool. We will see. I am not saying I would never go again, I just need to think about it more.

Below are some pictures (The ones that are appropriate to share!) from the weekend.

The rest of our Summer Staycation

We made it back to our house on July 5th, A Tuesday, and we had Katie, Grandma & The boys through Saturday. I was leaving on Thursday Night for my girls weekend.

On Tuesday night we just relaxed which was nice. On Wednesday, we decided to take the kids to the fair. It was over 100 degrees outside. We rented Grandma a wheelchair and rode a lot of rides. Paige, Grandma & I watched story time and hung out in the kids area while the bigger kids went to ride the better rides. Then we all watched a little circus act and decided what to have for lunch. We then looked at the 4h animals and headed out. It was so hot I almost passed out walking back to Justin's car. He had to take me to my car which I parked for free a lot farther away. I was glad I only had to walk back to his car.

When we came home we attempted at hiding out my our air conditioned house but the boys ended up outside a lot. I made watermelon smoothies and we just tried to stay cool. We played some ball out front with Grandma which was a lot of fun. We ended up borrowing a motorized scooter for Grandma from our neighbor which made things easier. That night, I stayed home and baked a cake for Katie's birthday which was Thursday. Everyone else went to boomers where they rode to Go Karts & played video games. Paige is big enough to ride with her dad now and I hear she thought she was driving for a while. Grandma had a great time watching them try to take each other out.

Thursday we just hung around the house most of the day. Grandma taught Justin how to make his favorite Portuguese dish (Sopa?) and I took Katie to get her hair dyed. I picked up our favorite Chinese food (Ha's in San Ramon) for lunch. For dinner, we had Sopa and we all sang Happy Birthday to Katie. My friend picked me up around 7pm to head to LA.

On Friday, Justin dropped Paige off at school and my mom picked her up later. He took the rest of them to Santa Cruz. They went to see Grandpa's grave and dropped Grandma off at her house. They just hung out at Grandma's house and then headed back here.

On Saturday Justin took all of the kids to San Francisco. They tried to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge, but it was too windy. He took them over to Lombard street and went down it. They hung out in China town for a little while and had some Clam Chowder and did some souvenir shopping. When they were getting ready to leave, they looked out over the side of a parking structure and watched as some guy dressed like a bush was jumping out scaring people. They all laughed and watched that for a little while. He took them to Haight/Ashbury. Then they found an in and out burger for dinner near the airport. After dinner they still had some time to spare so they had some ice cream. They dropped Katie off at the airport to head back to Kansas and headed back home.

We had a great time overall. Not as exciting as traveling across the country. But fun nevertheless. It is always great to spend time with Family and getting to know Justin's cousin Katie was wonderful. The pictures below are lacking the Fair (We forgot the camera and my cell phone) and Santa Cruz/San Fran. I haven't loaded pics from Justin's camera yet. I will try to add them late.
